Charred Timber Cladding

Charred Timber Cladding

The wood charring technique, also known as Yakisugi, stands out due to its exceptional durability, making it particularly suitable for exterior elements like wood panelling and cladding. This method, with its roots tracing back centuries, has been extensively utilized and proven in Japan, where climate conditions vary from semi-tropical to northern.

The Yakisugi technique involves a meticulous exposure of individual wood boards to intense flames. Our highly skilled specialists employ advanced tools and treatment techniques to char the wood without causing damage. This process not only enhances aesthetics but, crucially for exterior elements like cladding boards, strengthens the wood and provides additional protection against challenging environmental conditions.

Following the fire treatment, Yakisugi boards undergo a brushing process to remove excess carbon, resulting in a more visually appealing and pleasantly textured surface. Finally, the charred wood siding receives a water and plant based Woka varnish treatment for added UV protection and a radiant finish in different colours.
